A future of responsible AI and biometrics

a future of responsible ai

The Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD) has just approved its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, which takes into account current technological challenges and defines three key priorities. First, the responsible use of artificial intelligence; second, the growing deployment of biometric systems in both public and private services; and third, the enhanced protection of vulnerable groups, such as minors and the elderly.

To this end, the Ibero-American Data Protection Observatory—an initiative led by Argentina—will serve as a permanent mechanism for monitoring trends, risks, and best practices across the region.

Additionally, the Network has agreed to undertake a comprehensive review of the Ibero-American Data Protection Standards, with the goal of publishing an updated version in 2026. The primary aim is to provide countries with a common framework to support the safe adoption of biometrics and AI models in their regulatory ecosystems.
