new stage for industrial property
The SIC is entering a new phase with recent appointments following the change of government. On September 10, the following officials were appointed: Juan Pablo Mateus Bernal as Delegate Superintendant fo Consumer Protection, Edna Rocío Bonilla Ramírez as Delegate Superintendent for Consumer Protection; Adolfo León Castillo Arbeláez as Delegate Superintendent for the Control and Verification of Technical Regulations and Legal Metrology; Uriel Ángel Pérez Márquez as Delegate Superintendent for Jurisdictional Affairs; Alfredo José Palencia Hernández as Director of Habeas Data; and Sergio Martínez Santos as Director of Compliance.

Meanwhile, the Council of State is set to review a legal challenge against Decree 1225 of August 18, 2026, which appointed María Rocío Cortés Vargas as Superintendent of Industry and Commerce. The lawsuit questions whether she meets the professional experience requirements mandated for the position.

Finally, Resolution 75972 of September 23, 2026, updated industrial property fees for 2027 reflecting a general increase of 6.96% effective January 1, 2027. These fees cover procedures related to patents, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, trade names, designations of origin, oppositions, renewals, licenses, and other industrial property services. However, the resolution also provides for fee reductions for procedures before the Directorate of New Creations, services provided by CIGEPI, training via the Intellectual Property Classroom (API), and for beneficiaries of the “Assistance to Inventors (PAI)” and “PI-e Industrial Property for Entrepreneurs” programs.
