Jefri Aalmuhammed was sought by “Malcom X” star Denzel Washington to make historical contributions to the award-winning film, directed by Spike Lee, for which he requested acknowledgment as a co-writer.
Court decision:
Due to no previous contract that claimed joined authorship, The Court of Appeals stated that «Malcolm X» was not a joint work.
Aalmuhammed’s creative influence deemed insufficient to establish him as the «master mind.»
Spike Lee was recognized as the author of the film while Aalmuhammed was credited as «Islamic Technical Consultant.»
