The commerce of counterfeited goods has several impacts on the environment, from their fabrication to their destruction during customs inspections.
Counterfeit manufacturing often doesn’t meet the established sustainability norms, which results in contamination of air and water, and also in the reckless consumption of natural resources.

When seized, counterfeit goods are frequently subjected to destruction, releasing harmful carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Despite some countries’ attempts to recycle certain components, the presence of toxic substances present obstacles to this process.

By consciously abstaining from the purchase of counterfeit products, we actively contribute to the preservation of our environment.

However, consumers aren’t the only involved stakeholder that can act to help. Manufacturers, traders and governmental bodies are indispensable in this fight against counterfeiting to safeguard our planet for the prosperity of future generations.
