On September 11th 2024, the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks of Mexico published an agreement restricting the import of health products without marketing authorization. Under these new provisions, it is no longer possible to import drugs and medical devices without sanitary registration.
Previously, companies could obtain a sanitary registration through an expedited process if certain equivalency requirements were met. This allowed them to offer products without marketing authorization to address specific needs in the sector.
Now that these provisions have ended, companies can no longer participate in public tenders without a marketing authorization. This change is expected to positively impact the development and strengthening of procurement processes for health supplies.
