On 9 August 2023, new legislation concerning artificial intelligence was introduced in the Colombian Congress for approval. The primary objective is to regulate the duty of disclosure for the entities implementing artificial intelligence (AI) systems within their economic activities.
The proposal also includes a set of ethics guidelines and principles to implement IA technologies. These new rules have a preliminary and planned approach to guarantee a safe and responsible use, facilitating the analysis of the impacts and needs of the technology.
In Colombia, other bills have been introduced to establish public policies for the development and implementation of AI. This trend increases the number of AI regulatory projects in Latin America, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Peru.
