The measure seeks to ensure the timely supply of health technologies and contribute to the financial stability of Colombia’s healthcare system, as the authority recognized the existence of a basic economic sector whose stability requires protection.
The agreement includes three negotiation phases: high-cost medicines; medical devices and specialized foods; and finally, high-volume generic medicines.
For pharmaceutical suppliers, this mechanism opens the possibility of establishing direct, centralized negotiations with the EPS, optimizing commercial conditions, and participating in transparent, intermediary-free processes.
This new framework represents an opportunity to build sustainable commercial relationships with healthcare insurers and improve the efficiency of health technology distribution at the national level.
