According to the Colombian Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, exports of automotive vehicles, coffee, and vegetable oils to Mexico, China, and Costa Rica increased by 10.8% in 2023, reaching a total value of USD 1.955 billion. This represents a significant rise in exports of industrial and agro-industrial goods unrelated to the mining and energy industry.
The main driver behind this growth was the automotive sector, with a notable increase of 178.5% in automotive vehicle sales, primarily directed towards Mexico. Similarly, exports of green coffee beans also saw a significant increase, primarily towards China, with a 59.7% rise. Other notable products included vegetable oils, especially soybean oil, and freeze-dried or instant coffee.
Regarding the primary markets for Colombian exports, Mexico stands out as the main destination for exports with a value of USD 1.185 billion, followed by China at USD 440 million and Costa Rica with USD 330 million. These figures reveal the increase in the volume of non-mining-energy exports, which continue to represent the majority of Colombian exports.
