colombia promotes energy communities

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and Ecopetrol, through its Econova Innovation Network, launched the first call for the creation of energy communities in Colombia with a focus on science, technology, and innovation. The initiative seeks to build a portfolio of projects that promote clean energy, decarbonization, and sustainable resource use, with an emphasis on social engagement and the development of technically, environmentally, and socially sustainable models.

The call will allocate more than 11 billion Colombian pesos to finance four proposals: two in areas of the National Interconnected System (SIN) and two in Non-Interconnected Zones (ZNI). Projects must be submitted by alliances between communities, actors from the National Science, Technology and Innovation System, and energy market agents, and can be registered until November 14, 2025 on the MinCiencias SIGP platform.

The requirements and conditions for project submission and registration can be found on the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation’s website.
