Corruption Perception Index for 2025

corruption perception

The Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), published on February 10th, 2026 by Transparency International, is an annual snapshot of how public sector corruption is perceived across more than 180 countries. The 2025 edition sends a clear message: corruption risks remain deeply entrenched worldwide, fuelled by political tensions, socio political conflicts, and citizens growing distrust in public institutions.

In Latin America, the picture is still tough. While a few countries show stronger institutions, most continue to face structural weaknesses that undermine rights, fundamental freedoms, and real access to justice. In this context, Colombia scored 37 out of 100, fell seven positions (compared with 2024), and ranked 99 out of 182 countries. The result points to democratic instability, institutional erosion, and setbacks in the anti-corruption fight agenda.

How can this perception be improved? Against this backdrop, the private sector is playing a more visible role through compliance programs designed to prevent legal, operational, and reputational risks. It is not just about having policies on paper. When compliance programs are applied seriously, they reduce tolerance for unethical conduct and raise standards in business interactions, including with the public sector. The broader challenge is strengthening practices and institutions that rebuild public trust and, over time, improve Colombia’s standing in the index.
