2016<\/a><\/span>-, the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC in Spanish) updated its intellectual property fees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The fee updates meant an increase of 6.84 % in all filing and prosecution rates of patents, trademarks and others distinctive signs and new creations, which applies from 1 January 2017. \u00a0The new fees will be included in the SIC&#8217;s main regulation (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>COLOMBIA\u00a0| Corporate Law\u00a0|\u00a0Colombia: emails related with the corporate purpose of a company are part of the business correspondence and must be kept<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 28 September 2016, and by means of <span target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Concept 220-187987<\/a><\/span> &#8211;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/superwas.supersociedades.gov.co\/virtuales\/buscarRadicacion.do\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rated under the filing 2016-01-426431<\/a><\/span>-, the Superintendence of Companies (Colombian Authority on\u00a0Surveillance, Control and Inspection\u00a0of\u00a0companies) indicated that data messages of the company related to the development of its corporate purpose \/ economic activity are part of the business correspondence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Accordingly, emails and similars\u00a0must be kept\u00a0for a period of 10 years, in compliance with the appointed\u00a0in Article 28 of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com\/translate?hl=es-419&amp;sl=es&amp;tl=en&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.secretariasenado.gov.co%2Fsenado%2Fbasedoc%2Fley_0962_2005.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Law 962 of 2005<\/a><\/span>. \u00a0The custody obligation is extensible\u00a0to emails related\u00a0to administrative aspects of the company.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>MEXICO\u00a0| Patents\u00a0|\u00a0Patent Offices of Austria and Mexico signed an agreement that\u00a0includes a Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 25\u00a0October 2016, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a justify;\">The agreements includes: (i) a Memorandum of Understanding related to cooperation in IP matters; (ii) the implementation of a Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH); and (iii) the formalization of recognition of the APO as International Search Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) by the IMPI.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mexico currently has 13 PPHs in force.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>COLOMBIA, MEXICO\u00a0| Consumer Law\u00a0|\u00a0Colombia and Mexico signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen consumer protection<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 28 October 2016, the Colombian and Mexican Authorities in Consumer Law (Superintendence of Industry and Commerce -SIC in
