The report recommendation for Latin American governments is to adopt long term goals in those topics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The highlighted countries in the Index were Chile, Colombia, M\u00e9xico, Peru and Uruguay. \u00a0Brazil was distinguished for its importance in the region, and Peru and Uruguay because of their emergent role.\u00a0 \u00a0In the ranking, the first position for a Latin American country was for Chile, 44<sup>th<\/sup> worldwide, and the second place was for Costa Rica, increasing 6 positions according to 2015 rankings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For more information, please see <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wipo.int\/edocs\/pubdocs\/en\/wipo_pub_gii_2016.pdf\">the following link<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>ARGENTINA | Intellectual Property\u00a0| Argentina\u2019s Trademark and Patent Office has a new president: D\u00e1maso Pardo<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On June 2016 D\u00e1maso Pardo was appointed as the new director of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com.co\/translate?sl=es&amp;tl=en&amp;js=y&amp;prev=_t&amp;hl=es&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.inpi.gov.ar%2F&amp;edit-text=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Argentine Trademark and Patent Office<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 A new approach to industrial property rights in Argentina is expected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new president is member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and has served as a Partner at the Argentine law firm PAGBAM IP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>BRAZIL | Regulatory | Brazil regulates access to genetic resources<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 11 May 2016 Brazil issued <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wipo.int\/wipolex\/es\/text.jsp?file_id=407884\">Decree N\u00b0 8.772 (2016<\/a>)<\/span>, which regulates <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wipo.int\/wipolex\/es\/text.jsp?file_id=376795\">Law 13.123 of May 20 2015<\/a><\/span> governing access to genetic resources, protection and access to traditional knowledge, and distribution, benefits of conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The decree regulates how the law should be applied and identifies principal problems in the access to genetic resources. \u00a0At the same time, the Decree regulates the Management Board of the Genetic Heritage functions (under the Ministry of Environment), which authorizes the access and exchange of genetic material.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The decree considers the following as genetic heritage: (i) microorganisms isolated from the country\u00b4s substrates; (ii) plant and animal species that are spontaneously found in the national territory, and that acquire specific characteristics of the country, and (iii) species with genetic diversity adapted by indigenous people, traditional communities and agriculturists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>COLOMBIA | Regulatory | New meat product sanitary regulation enters into force in Colombia<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Starting 9 August 2016, Decrees <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.invima.gov.co\/images\/stories\/aliementos\/Decreto1500_2007.pdf\">1500 of 2007<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.invima.gov.co\/images\/decreto_22702012.pdf\">2270 of 2012<\/a><\/span> gradually entered into force, as part of the Colombian Government\u2019s aim to ensure meat products with quality and free of transmissible diseases.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Its full implementation will be achieved in the next 2 years, and are characterized by defining sanitary requirements to be complied in the chicken, bovine and pork meat processing chains.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The new regulations imply the need to modernize slaughterhouses, estimating the closure of over 315 in the first year.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>.
