The Fordham Competition Law Institute at Fordham University School of Law has been organizing for the last 47 years its renowned “Annual Conference on International Antitrust Law and Policy”, where mostly US and European Competition Law issues are discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, due to the current public health crisis and its global impact, Fordham University decided to host the event online, allowing OM\u2019s entire Competition team to attend. Important speakers participated, including academics, professionals and some international competition authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event took place from 7 to 9 October. On the first day of the event, two sessions were held as economics workshops, where issues related to conflicting decisions in the pharmaceutical sector, issues related to econometrics and models for global mergers, and digital platforms and their effects on international markets were covered. Some officials from international competition authorities also spoke, explaining measures taken to mitigate Covid-19 pandemic effects on their local markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Main conferences began the second day, in which, among others, issues related to challenges in the current digital age for competition authorities were discussed, where technology and consumer privacy were prominent topics. There were also discussions around global issues that have been reviewed in relation to mergers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final wrap up discussed challenges that the coronavirus has brought to Competition Law, as well as new regulations that have been implemented locally and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among prominent speakers, we can highlight competition authority commissioners of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, and Portugal, as well as other competition experts at a global level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This type of event allows grasping better knowledge in Competition Law currently being updated by authorities, experts and academia. For OlarteMoure, it is paramount to keep up-to-date on such relevant issues discussed globally. We hope health conditions allow our attendance in person at the next event in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
