On 17 April the Official Journal of the European Union published directives 2019\/789 and 2019\/790 that adapt copyright<\/a> rules to current platforms, including music streaming services, user-uploaded content and video platforms, and television and radio programs within the EU, among others.<\/p>\n

EU 2019\/789 Directive<\/a>\u00a0allows users of any EU Member State to access a wide range of television and radio programs within the EU at the same originating broadcast time, with the exception of sporting events that are expressly excluded.<\/p>\n

Moreover,\u00a0Directive (EU) 2019\/790<\/a>\u00a0discusses the legal framework in which user-generated content service providers (such as YouTube) operate, by providing benefits such as the legal uploading of copyright<\/a>-protected content in platforms, including memes and parodies. It also guarantees that authors and artists receive fair and proportional compensation when waiving their exclusive rights to exploit works, especially when the compensation initially agreed upon is disproportionate in comparison to real income derived from the exploitation of the works.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
